COMPANY INFORMATION
Sausal Corporation is a commercial building contractor with an
office and warehouse at 422 Whitney Street, San Leandro, CA 94577.
The company is privately owned and James E. Ward is the President.
There are ten to twelve people in the main office with functions
including estimating, project management, accounting, payroll
and marketing. The office relies on current technology with a
computer network, web site and a variety of software. The warehouse
space behind the offices contains small tools, compressors, cords,
general materials, trucks, ladders, scaffolds and basic resources
for field construction.
Sausal is an Merit Shop Contractor and a member of both AGC (Associated
General Contractors) and ABC (Associated Building Contractors).
Sausal is not signatory to union agreements but there is no bias
against employees who may have union affiliation or subcontractors
who have union shops. Most of the projects worked on have both
union and nonunion employees at the site. Many of the projects
completed in recent years are government funded and require Prevailing
Wages which are similar to union wage rates. Sausal Corporation
does not require union dues so employees on prevailing wage projects
often take home more money than union employees on the same site.
Sausal Corporation has completed projects in all Bay Area counties,
including Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco, Alameda, Contra
Costa, and San Joaquin. Specific cities worked in include San
Jose, San Mateo, San Francisco, Rodeo, Antioch, Brentwood, Pleasanton
and Hayward. A typical project will last from 6 to 12 months and
employee assignments to specific sites may vary from week to week
based on project requirements. Generally work starts at 7 AM and
ends at 3:30 PM with breaks and a ½ hour lunch. Employees must
be prepared to work at a variety of job sites in different areas.
The work is "at will" and there is no guarantee of full time work.
If the weather or project assignments change there may be no work
available.
There are generally four to ten projects under construction at
any one time. Projects range from a few thousand dollars over
a few weeks to $ 15 million dollars over two years. Each project
will have an office Project Manager and a Field Superintendent.
Personnel are assigned to each project on a weekly basis per project
requirements. The Superintendent at each site will assign tasks
and evaluate performance.
Safety is very important and rules and regulations must be complied
with. Employees must wear steel toe boots and hard hats, work
in a safe manner and be aware of their work environment.
Field employees are expected to have their own tools. Sausal will
provide large tools and equipment as well as consumables such
as saw blades. Sausal may undertake the following work directly
with our own forces : demolition, concrete, wood framing, doors
& hardware, finish carpentry & trim, seismic bolting, metal buildings
and any other work that can be completed efficiently. |
